| Personal History | Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Fernando was quite the wild child. Out of the five of their children he was the one, his parents worried about the most. Growing up he was the one who got into extreme activities and would end in the hospital with a broken body part. Though he wasn't the best student in school, Fernando always wanted to follow in the footsteps of his hero Captain James T. Kirk who had heard many stories about. When he first applied to Starfleet Academy, he was originally turned down and was told to try again next year. Refusing to accept no for an answer, Fernando wrote several letters on why they should change their minds and when that didn't work he decided to pay the admissions office a visit. He refused to leave the building until he was allowed to see the administrator. When he finally was seen, he told the Commodore. "I've seen the people that you accept into this institution walking around campus like drones. If that's what you want, then this isn't the place for me after all. But if you want an actual leader, who's going to flip the script. Then I'll see you in the fall." The Commodore laughed and sent Fernando away. A week later after the young man had given up, received a letter instructing him to report to Starfleet Academy in the Fall. At the Academy Lopez didn't hesitate to make his voice heard. When he heard something that he didn't necessarily agree with in class, he was quick to call out the Professors on it. Many days were spent with him arguing in class with his Professors, though he was a pain at times, a few noted that what he lacked in high grades he made up for in determination. Fernado participated in many sports in the Acadmey, but one of his favorites was being part of the wrestling team. And his favorite pastime was driving his roomate/bestfriend Cadet Oga an Bolian crazy with all his ideas. In 2373, the Federation officially went to war with the Dominion. At the time, he had just completed his senior year early along with several other Cadet and quickly assigned due to the anticipation of the war. Ensign Lopez was assigned to the USS Osirus an Akira class starship as a helmsman. The crew of the Osirus saw many battles first hand against the Dominion. Fernando didn't really think to highly of the Chief Helm Officer in his opinion the man played it too safe and was never willing to take any real risk. Thus far, he hasn't been piloting the ship during battles but has used several times piloting shuttle and runabouts into combat situation. This has earned him the reputation of being a combat pilot, delivering and pulling out Starfleet personnel out of hot zones. Fernando during the war, accepted another assignment on Starbase Pegasus as the Chief Support Craft Pilot. The location of Starbase Pegasus was located extremely close to the Cardassian border. During his year there, Ensign Lopez engaged in several missions piloting in and out of several hot zones. When the Dominion War came to an end, Fernando received a promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade. His reputation spreading, he began receiving offers from several Captains looking for a Chief Helm Officer. When one of those offers was from the USS Bowfin, Lopez became excited about the possibility of serving on a Defiant class ship. |
